The 20th century was a turning point in our conception of art, which is mainly why contemporary artists frequently reach for new concepts, break with tradition and reject classic notions of beauty. All these factors have given birth to abstract art. The artist no longer tries to reflect reality, but rather tries to give expression to their inner world and feelings.
The old definitions of art have become obsolete. Today, art is an evolving and global concept, open to new interpretation, too fluid to be pinned down. Technology changing our social interactions and the visual landscape, these developments are culminating in a culture of individuality and an appreciation of unique perspective. Artists are experimenting with technology striving to develop new techniques and to share their individuality. This new evolution allows artists to play with media, revisit traditional era and develop new art forms. Digital and commercial art are an integral part of the art movement we are in today.
DEW #10 issue is an exploration of the meaning of art and an attempt to understand the relationship between art and artists today, with some useful insights from both traditional and digital approach.
